WHAT ARE DENTURES?
Dentures are removable dental appliances that act as a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and restore the appearance and oral functions that were lost. These dental appliances can repair and enhance a person’s appearance. They are worn throughout the day and taken out at night to give the oral tissues time to relax. These dental appliances generally last from 5-8 years. However, regular visits to your dentist are essential for maintenance.
REASONS THE GET DENTURES
Dental issues such as accelerated tooth decay, periodontal disease, malnutrition and drug use are all potential factors that may lead to an early necessity for dentures in Dixie. Some of the most common reasons are as follow:
Injury
Injury to the face can result in multiple teeth falling out or becoming seriously damaged. When tech cannot be preserved or implanted, dentures can quickly and easily restore one’s smile adoral functions.
Decay
Decay can lead to teeth rotting and falling out. This is sometimes due to poor oral hygiene, diet or hereditary despite regular brushing and checkups.
Gum Disease
Gum Disease, especially if left untreated, can result in the loss of teeth, making dentures the best option for restoring a smile.
Dentures are a permanent solution to restore one’s appearance, and they allow those with significant tooth problems to regain proper tooth function, which aids in chewing, appearance, and overall oral health.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTURES?
An alternative to missing teeth, dentures provide several benefits to patients with missing teeth.
Professionally made Dentures Dixie can:
- Increase your self-esteem and boost confidence
- Improve your overall appearance and smile
- Support your facial muscles
- Improve your speech
- Durable and strong
- Instant beautiful straight and white teeth
- Assist in chewing, allowing patients to eat food they wouldn’t otherwise be able to eat
THE TYPES OF DENTURES
There are two types of dentures - complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth but also prevents other teeth from shifting.
Complete Dentures
A Complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate.” Complete Dentures are made of a plastic base that supports a full set of plastic or porcelain teeth. Traditionally, they are secured in the mouth by forming a seal with the gums. However, they can also be attached to dental implants to hold them in place.
A conventional type is made after removing the teeth, and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, the patient will go without teeth.
Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from being without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, your dentist at Orchard Dental Care will make appropriate adjustments.
Partial Dentures
Partial Dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to a pink-gum coloured plastic-based. Sometimes they are connected by a metal framework to hold the denture in the mouth. They are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw as it fills in the space created by missing teeth.
At Orchard Dental Care, patients have the added benefit of knowing that our entire team only utilizes the highest quality of materials and advanced technology to achieve truly beautiful as well as personalized results.
THE DENTURE PROCESS AT ORCHARD DENTAL CARE
The process of getting dentures requires several appointments at Orchard Dental Care, usually over several weeks. Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several “try-in” appointments may be necessary to ensure proper shape, colour, and fit. Your dentist will precisely adjust and place the completed denture at the final appointment, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.
It is normal to experience increased saliva flow, some soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty. However, this will subside as your muscles, and tissues get used to the new dentures.
You are given care instructions for your new dentures. Proper cleaning of your new dental appliance, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new dentures.
